RS Activity: "Women at the Well"

Our RS activity this month has been changed! Several of our RS sisters, as well as several sisters of other faiths, are participating in “Women at the Well,” a musical production depicting New Testament stories of women touched by Jesus Christ. The program is Thursday, August 18th at 7:30pm, at 2047 Magnolia Ave. in Buena Vista (formerly Alexander’s). We hope to see you there!

Presidency Change

We'd like to give a very special thanks to our former RS presidency, released this past Sunday (August 7th): Miyoko Baldridge, Michelle Mahaffey, and Cathie Butler. They have been a wonderful presidency and we are so grateful for their loving service!

Below is a message from our new president, Kristie Gibbons:

Sisters,

I hope that you are finding several moments of joy on your journey this week. I also hope that our Relief Society can be strengthened as we collectively look for the blessings that are all around us. Please take a few moments this week to study and search the word joy in the scriptures. At the beginning of each Relief Society meeting, we will give you an opportunity to share with us your newly discovered insights. I feel inspired that as we collectively do this, our Heavenly Father will bless us individually and will help unite us as sisters.

I hope and pray that I can serve you to the best of my ability. I am so grateful for the counselors and secretary who stand by my side to help move the work forward in the Buena Vista Relief Society. I would also like to express my sincere thanks to Miyoko and her presidency for the countless hours of service they have given over the past few years. I look forward to getting better acquainted with all of you!

Primary This Sunday

Sharing Time in Primary this week will have a pioneer theme! Children may come dressed in pioneer attire, if they wish. Extra bonnets and scarves will be on hand for those who don't have pioneer clothes.

The Washington DC temple will be closed from Monday, July 11 to Monday, July 25th for maintenance. It will reopen on Tuesday, July 26th.

It's a Boy!

Jennifer and Duane Wilson welcomed their son, Andrew David Wilson, to the world at 9:16 AM on June 17th. He was 7 lbs. 14 oz. and 20 in. long.

Train with the YW!

The Young Women are training for the Labor Day 5K run! Come support and walk or run with them. They will meet Fridays at 7:30AM at the 10th Street floodwall entrance.

Lexington Tour--This Friday

Play Group this week will be for everyone, kids or no kids! We'll be going on a walking tour of Lexington. This is a free, guided tour of downtown Lexington. Meet at the Lexington Visitor's Center (106 East Washington Street, next to the Stonewall Jackson House) at 3 pm, rain or shine. It looks like a chance of rain that afternoon but it doesn't look like it will be scorching hot. Questions--contact Nicole Olsen at 202.412.2617. See you there!

We are very excited for Shantell and Robert Moses! They welcomed their new baby daughter, Brittannia Uzilla, into their family on Thursday, June 9th.

Twins!

Tatiana and Corwin Bennett welcomed two beautiful little girls to their family! Chelese Gislaine was 8 lbs. 6 oz. and 21 inches long. Jocelie Richelle was 8 lbs. 4 oz. and 21 inches long. Everything went well and Mom is happy!

Emilie Anne and Logan Davis welcomed a new daughter to their home this past week!

Anna Rae Davis was born at 4:38 a.m. on Saturday, May 28th at Augusta Health Center in Fishersville. She was 7lbs, 3oz, 19 1/2" long. She's beautiful, healthy and strong! Mama and baby are glad to be home with the boys. :-)

Wednesday: Ward Activity

Tomorrow (June 1) there is a combined ward activity with the Rockbridge ward. We will be gardening! There will be food. :) The activity begins at 6:00 PM.

April 2011 Newsletter

Happy Birthday, Relief Society!

In March we celebrated, with sisters worldwide, the birthday of the Relief Society organization.  We had a lovely evening filled with dinner, music, and visiting.  The dinner and the gorgeous cake were all lovingly made by sisters in our ward--thank you!  We were also able to enjoy a reenactment of the first meeting of the Relief Society in Nauvoo.  Below is a picture of some of the sisters who participated in the reenactment; we're sorry we didn't get everyone!  It was a lovely evening and it was fun to learn more about the beginnings of the wonderful organization of Relief Society.  Indeed, we are here to "do something extraordinary!"
